Wild Pink

Design, illustration & photography

Album design, lyric illustrations, and product photography for the Wild Pink A Billion Little Lights campaign.

The rustic, minimalist design was based off of the previous two Wild Pink albums, Wild Pink and Yolk in the Fur.

To freshen up the design, a hand-lettered version of the font from the previous album covers (Ryo Text Plus) was used. The text was also tracked out to modernize the design.

The album lyrics and credits were styled to look like typewriter text, using AFL Font. To mimic the effect of a typewriter, several layers of the text were stacked on top of each other with different filters applied, including Gaussian Blur, Motion Blur, and Sprayed Strokes. Text layers were also duplicated, and then altered with different blend modes (Multiply, Soft Light), as well as varying levels of distressing to mimic pressure differences and variance in ink saturation as seen with real typewriters.

The vinyl labels were kept simple, using parts of the front and back cover images with no text other than “Side A/Side B” in Ryo Text Plus.

The back cover mimicked the layout on the front cover, with a large image in the centre. The tracklist and copyright were placed below the picture, and were styled in Ryo Text Plus.

Some close up images showing the details in the design.

Above is a sampling of product photos I took to help advertise the album release on social media. The images were primarily taken in a historic village and forest, but some were styled in a studio setup as flatlays.

As a final way to promote the album on socials, I created lyrics graphics. Each set of lyrics was styled like the album insert to look like typewriter text. The text was then paired with watercolour images of flowers that I painted.
