Strange Days

Mixed Media & Typography Exploration, 2018

With no direction for this project other than “make an experimental book”, I set out to explore one of my favourite aspects of design: typography.

This book began with listening to the Doors’ song, “Strange Days”. I then scoured books, songs, and the internet to find quotes about strangeness, and from here, I began playing with type.

Hand-drawn and digital elements came together to create a multi-media book. I distorted type, and printed it on plastic bags. I splattered ink with water, stamped it, and stitched it. I used partially dried nail polish to create a strange layered look. I printed out quotes, then photographed them underwater. No medium or style was off limits, allowing me to truly convey the idea of strangeness.
